No Escape! Astro’s Playroom Guide
This came pre-installed with every PlayStation 5 console to show the power of the PS5 and DualSense controller. It’s clear that gamers love these little bots, and the excitement for them now is that their full-fledged PS5 game, Astro Bot, is coming in a few weeks. Astro’s Playroom is more than a demo as its charm and gameplay shine through to every player. But once you do dive in, there’s no shortage of joy that comes from how Team Asobi has translated in-game surfaces, objects, and movement into different DualSense sensations. Need to get back to it for the special bots, downloaded it the other day but just haven’t got around to it. (LeMans and other duties) @BrettAwesome It’s been updated, hasn’t it.
This references 2015’s Hell Divers, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios for the PS4, PS4 and PS Vita. The name of the Trophy is very similar to the game’s hardest difficulty, “Hell Dive”. The “Project Neo” Trophy is a reference to the codename of the PS4 Pro.
Similar feelings are conveyed when you walk on ice, have water droplets falling on you, and other things that I won’t spoil. These feelings that I got from this controller are hard to describe in text but when you actually feel it for yourself, you’ll see just how much of a game changer the DualSense controller can be. It really makes me hope that as many developers as possible use the feature set inside this controller in their games. Artifact 1/2 “Buzz Controller”– At the first hang glider section, you need to try and reach the upper platform to the left of the platform you’re aiming for. If you miss and trigger the checkpoint on the lower platform you’ll need to restart the level to try again, if you don’t trigger it you can just jump off the side.
Astro’s Playroom makes the case that the DualSense Controller is the best in all gaming. It perfectly showcases the capabilities of the device in fun and engaging ways. From the moment you boot up the demo, the game takes you through the DualSense. It takes you through the vibration, adaptive triggers, touchpad, motion sensor and microphone. As spotted by Twitter user realradec, Astro’s Playroom received an update for February 2025 that added the PS5 Pro as an artifact. In Astro’s Playroom, players can obtain “Artifacts” from a gacha machine that unlocks collectible PlayStation products.

Vib-Ribbon was unique in that it loaded entirely into the PS1’s RAM, allowing players to insert their own music CDs to play levels to. At the Checkpoint overlooking the first mud pit, you’ll two a Bot with a Net looking for a Bot with a siren on its head hiding in a bush. This references 1999’s Ape Escape on PS1, made by SCE Japan Studio. Ape Escape is notable for being the first PlayStation game to require a Dual Analog/DualShock controller; you couldn’t play it using the launch gamepad.

Look over the edge of the island to see a blue aura in the clouds. The robots from the VR classic find new footing on the PS5 in Astro’s Playroom from the PS5 reveal event. When you return to the main hub area of Astro’s Playroom, the gigantic PS5 Pro will be displayed next to the base PS5, with a little Astro Bot perched on top. Simply interact with each one, help the bots lift up the rock, and they will be added to your collection. If you get it wrong, then you’ll need to scale the hill again, grab another bunch of bananas, and retry the dance minigame. If you’re successful, you’ll unlock the bot and get the “No Escape!
Astro’s Playroom has you controlling one of the Astro Bots as you explore different areas to find artifacts. These aren’t just any items but other accessories and items from PlayStation’s history. Collecting all the items feels like you’re a curator at a PlayStation museum. Suits like these are creative enough not to make the motion control feel like too much of a gimmick and eventually make you hate it. Having bows as weapons isn’t mind-blowing; it’s a staple in many games.
Special Bots are hidden Bots scattered throughout each biome of Astro’s Playroom, and were added in the lead-up to the sequel, Astro Bot. Each represents a VIP Bot from Astro Bot, and can be found in the Mission Control Room of the new Labo Basement area once you’ve freed them. They will only appear after you’ve unlocked and completed 1994 Throwback.

Puzzle Piece 4/4 – Once you reach the section of the level where it is raining, before going up the dark wall, jump to the platform on the right to reach this puzzle piece. Artifact 2/2 “EyeToy Camera” – At the next checkpoint you can obtain the machine gun, which allows you to shoot through glass walls. Another display you can unlock for the Labo area is a sign with the Sony Interactive Entertainment logo which, if punched three times, will drop down and reveal the Sony Computer Entertainment logo. This is the old name for Sony Interactive Entertainment, which changed to that name in 2016. Throughout Astro’s Playroom, notably the Labo area and SSD Speedway, you’ll find boxes of Data with 8MB printed on them. The PlayStation 5 Pro is the more powerful version of the original PlayStation 5, similar to the PlayStation 4 Pro. Its signature feature is a dedicated chip for intelligent upscaling of a game’s rendered image, letting them hit resolution targets at a fraction of the processing power, allowing for higher framerates. This was usually done via Sony’s proprietary PSSR technique (which stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution).
